Synopsis: 

After being 10 years away from my mother, in 2011 I travel for the first time to Taiwan to visit her. I start shooting our reunion, realizing the possibility to start a movie. During the stay, I try to talk to her about the murder of my father, but I don´t succeed. Eight years later, we travel back to Taiwan. Finally, I realize that I didn’t come to shoot my father’s story, but my mother’s: a strong woman.

Director’s profile: 

Juan Martín Hsu was born in Buenos Aires city and studied Image and Sound Design in UBA. He participated in several workshops and scholarships such as: Taller Proa, Ibermedia program and Valencia Ibertalent. “La Salada” (2015) is his first feature film, which made him win the award 2013 Cinema in Construction of San Sebastian Festival to finish it, and participated in several festivals such as the 39 Toronto Film Festival, 16° BAFICI in international competition, San Sebastian in Latin Horizons and 26° Biarritz Festival. Also winner of many awards such as Silver Condor, Critic’s prize in Biarritz, Gramado and Vancouver, among others. His next work was Mandarin Diamond 2015, a short film of the movie Historias Breves X, awarded in many international festivals. In both films he deals with migration in Argentina. Today he is working in two fictions: “The strangers” and “Street wanderers”.
